Social Media for Research?

My research methodology will be survey-based, consisting of an examination of the tendencies that fitness tracker users have when prompted to agree or disagree to a privacy policy associated with the software applications that link to their wearable devices to collect their biometric data.  I haven’t given much thought about the digital preservation of my findings, however the digitization of this information would be beneficial, as it would improve its accessibility to those who want to gain insight on privacy concerns that users face, and how privacy policies currently reflect the desires of wearable technology users.

I do not have a background on digitization or digital preservation, however something interesting that I thought of was how we currently live in a digital culture that is so eager to share.  Perhaps it would be interesting to see some form of social media platform that exists for researchers to share notes, findings, and breakthroughs.  Not only would this provide motivation and support from other researches, but it would be an ongoing digitization of the progress made throughout the entire research project.  This blog serves as a similar tools, however a platform where we could make friends and network with those who have similar research projects seems like a really neat idea to me.

I’m not sure how well this would go over between researches competing for funding, however it seems like a good idea as the advancement of knowledge is a very collective process and shared conversation.
