After the quiz I kept on reflecting on my philosophy toward research
methods, and I found myself overturning a lot of ideas I have been assumed of
myself. Indeed, in the real world new researches are constantly overturning the
results of old ones. Researches which were thought to be well-constructed might
turn out to be ungrounded at all. But I figure that is the purposes of researches---the
process is in itself the end.
The quiz also does a very good job in summarizing the gist
of different philosophies in short, concise sentences. They are so
inspirational and I found myself chewing the words of the choices.
Of course, there are issues. The exact meaning of the
concepts is one among many. What does it mean by “the breadness of bread”? What
is “objective truth”? They are so “complex and ambiguous” and need exhaustive
elaboration. The validity of these terms will cause problems to the “operationalization”
of the quiz, as Luker pointed out.
