" Results: You are Patricia Collins!
Author of Black Feminist Thought and
one of the most influential voices in contemporary standpoint Theory, it’s not
enough for you to question how social systems work, but you want to expose how
these systems privilege and oppress various groups. You advocate for the
reclaiming of lost voices in knowledge narratives. You not only reject the idea
of objective Truth, but you believe that validating subjectivity is essential
in the quest for truer knowledge. You believe listening to and validating the
experiences of the oppressed leads to a more complete understanding of the
world. Power to the people you critical theorist! "
The result of the test, my first take,
details that I am Patricia Collins. True, we share similarities, we are both women
of colour. I agree that I am a critical theorist, for the most part in
consideration to all of the conflict theory and inequality that I have written
on/inclinations of reading (an example, see my previous blog post, the
second bullet/research question http://methodologicalagnostics.blogspot.ca/2016/01/week-2-potential-research-questions.html
).
But like most quizzes, the results are quite general and seem like they can apply
to anyone, much like the daily horoscopes posting in your local newspaper.
Like the daily horoscope, even if it's wrong, readers (like me) hope to aspire
to some of the complimenting attributes written in the short text. For example,
I do hope that I “reject the idea of the objective Truth [and…] believe in
validating subjectivity [which] is essential in the quest of truer knowledge".
Most of all the last bit on subjectivity, I think would very likely be the source of my
research inclinations, as well as anyone else's (or at least I think so--see what I did there? :P).
